'Jay Dugan
Goes Radical' -- Area Auto Racing News, November 13, 2007
By BRETT DEYO
HAMILTON, NJ – New name. New location. New
equipment. Same great results.
What was formerly JD3Graphics, has now become
the Radical Design Group – in fact, the only semblance of
the former brand is the staff behind the counter. But, as
proprietor Jay Dugan asserted, customers can expect the same
quality (if not better) design work that has made Dugan one
of the top race car lettering and graphic talents in the
Northeast.
“Right now, we’re in a big transition
period,” said Dugan, 24, while hard at work settling into
his new place of business. The move took place in early
November and the team should be finalized and settled in by
early December.
“It was time for a serious change – from the
bottom up. So, when approached with the opportunity to
re-gain focus and grow our brand, we jumped on it.”
“We picked up our operation and moved into a
2,000 square foot facility, bought another vinyl cutter and
got into a 54 inch printer that will give us the opportunity
to create full-vehicle wraps, much like the NASCAR guys
use.”
Aside from a new, larger workspace (almost
three times the size of their previous location) and a full
storefront from which to work, Dugan noted that he’d be less
involved in the “business side” of Radical Design Group,
with more focus on the design aspect.
“The new arrangement gives me the opportunity
to focus primarily on our design work – and more
importantly, focus 100 percent of my efforts into the
development of the Radical brand. Previously, it had been
difficult for me to find a proper balance between the
management end, the design end and then finding time for all
of the promotional endeavors I was involved in.”
Much like the business had offered under the
JD3Graphics moniker, the Radical Design Group offers
eye-catching; detail oriented lettering and graphic packages
– from dirt big-block Modifieds to Quarter Midgets and
everything in between.
“I think we’ve really come full circle,” said
Dugan while discussing his lettering procedure. “We’ve
gotten to a point where we can provide our customers with a
quality product in a short period of time -- while involving
them in the whole design process.”
“We’ll typically meet with our customers to
sort out what they like and dislike, creating an end-result
that leaves everyone satisfied. That is something that is
lacking in most design firms.”
The artistic Dugan, who launched JD3 in 2000,
isn’t just another guy with a vinyl machine.
“We take great pride in creating custom
packages for our customers.”
With over 150 race cars sporting Dugan’s
handywork last season were: Bridgeport Speedway regulars
Mike Iles and Chic Cossaboone; and New Egypt Speedway
contenders Ryan Godown and Jimmy Horton.
An off-shoot of the Radical Design Group is
RaceMarketing.net, which Dugan describes as “tools to get
ahead of the competition.”
On the web at
www.RaceMarketing.net,
Dugan and Co. offer logo design for race teams and
speedways, web design for tracks, teams and drivers and
marketing items such as announcer sheets, sponsorship
packets/proposals, brochures and driver hero cards.
“A lot of teams take their image for
granted. We created the RaceMarketing.net options to help
race teams attract sponsors and attract fans.”
Radical Design Group offers teams, drivers,
speedways and race-oriented business the complete image
package.
