JD3Graphics Shoots to the Top of Northeast Motorsports
Industry
By BRETT DEYO
There’s a belief in the business world that success comes
with time; overnight success stories are often viewed as
oddities or discredited as flukes.
If
that’s the case, JD3Graphics has defied all the odds.
Led
by young Jay Dugan, the Hamilton, N.J.-based design company
has rocketed to the forefront of the motorsports industry in
just four years of existence. Labeled as the “only one-stop
graphic shop,” JD3Graphics offers racecar lettering, web
design and business and autograph cards. JD3Graphics takes
the guesswork out of artwork – customers can see renditions
of their cars, race suits or other products before they buy
them.
Don’t call the 23-year-old Dugan an overnight sensation –
his hard work over the past few seasons resulted in
nationwide media coverage and a barrage of attention.
In
2004, Dugan’s work was featured in Stock Car Magazine
(the dirt big-block Modifieds of Ricky Elliott and Mike
Iles) along with a photo shoot of Ms. Motorsports with
Elliott’s car that was featured in popular auto racing trade
paper Area Auto Racing News.
Launching JD3Graphics in 2000, Dugan endeavored into web
design, first with graphics for South Jersey Dirt Racing and
Tim McCreadie’s website, among others. The lettering sector
of the business began in ’02, with Quarter Midgets
comprising most of the first dozen customers.
The
Quarter Midgets were also the first to give Dugan exposure.
His work earned “Best Appearing Car” recognition in ’02,
’03, ’04 and ’05 in the Quarter Midget Dirt States Race.
Once
JD3Graphics emerged from beneath the radar, the customer
based grew exponentially. Some of the drivers to sport the
JD3Graphics logo: Ricky Elliott (winner of the ’04 DIRT stop
at N.C.’s Lowe’s Motor Speedway); Jimmy Horton’s No. 901
(2004 New Egypt Speedway “Best Appearing Modified”); Ryan
Godown (’04 New Egypt Superstars champ); and Craig Mullins
(’04 Delaware Modified champion).
JD3
lettered over 120 racecars in 2005 alone, taking home Best
Appearing awards at Bridgeport Speedway in the 358 Modified
Division (Jesse Hill’s #99H) and Sportsman division (Sean
Carman’s #47), as well as, Super DIRT Week 2006 (Ryan
Godown’s #26); took over internet control of New Jersey’s
Bridgeport Speedway; and launched the JD3Graphics Young
Guns, an ambitious program featuring nine “23 and under
drivers” from Bridgeport intended to increase community
involvement and entice a younger fan base.
It’s
been a wildly successful ride already for JD3Graphics, but
what the future holds is more exhilarating. “You ain’t seen
NOTHIN’ yet.”
